This morning kicked off the “Mission-Critical Hyper-V: Applications, Storage and the Cloud” event series.
Virtualization has become a critical component in all sizes of IT infrastructures. The second phase of the journey to the cloud is virtualizing mission-critical applications. Traditionally, this has been a struggle for some organizations, just not ready to move that Exchange or SQL server to a virtual server. That is no longer the case, the time is now to take the steps to virtualize all applications. Today’s event is all about that application journey to the cloud.
The event agenda included an impressive list:
Keynote:
“Windows IT Pro – Building and Managing your IT Infrastructure from Virtualization to the Cloud” – Presented by Michael Otey, Technical Director for Windows IT Pro Magazine.
The focus was increasing ROI via server consolidation, business continuity and dynamic IT operations. Michael also covered the latest enhancements in Microsoft’s Hyper-V, The Challenges virtualization brings and how Microsoft System Center suite can help manage both physical and virtual environments. Mike also covered how storage and network infrastructure can be leveraged to bridge virtualization and the cloud.
Session 2
“Virtualizing Mission-Critical Applications" – Presented by Microsoft (Michael Boldezar)
Microsoft covered how to successfully deploy Hyper-V for mission critical SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint, including migration from physical applications to virtual, while considering both performance and availability. Microsoft also covered System Center and managing both on-premise and cloud based applications.
Session 3
“Optimizing Your Virtual and Private Cloud Infrastructure” – Presented by EMC (Dominick Dequarto).
In the session EMC demonstrated essential IT infrastructure to make Hyper-V Enterprise ready. EMC storage is fully integrated with Hyper-V, there are more than 100 integration points. EMC Demonstrated SAN snapshots for DR, how to create geographically dispersed clusters and Live-Migration over distance. EMC also presented customer case studies to highlight real-world solutions for implementing highly scalable and highly available mission-critical applications.
Today’s event is being hosted in the Boston Microsoft Technology Center (MTC) additional events are scheduled for Mountain View, CA (6/21/11), Chicago (6/23/11) and New York City (6/30/11).
